Through both light and darker seasons, I keep returning to my favorite place: the zone where my art is born. It can be anywhere really, but a large part of my artistic journey has taken place in Indonesia. And the ocean has definitely, always been my muse.
Many songs and ideas come to me while swimming, when the world and everything else fades out.
The Ocean Series — my first art collection — came to life along the Balinese shorelines in 2025. It wasn’t planned. In hindsight, it was a sincere attempt to turn darkness into light, into beauty.
Fast forward: I shipped the twelve oil paintings — some framed with heavy Balinese wood — to the Netherlands. And goodness gracious! That was not a light task. I then learned to make hand-cut passe-partouts and entered the realm of producing quality fine art prints.
Now, each painting is slowly finding its way into homes and workspaces across Europe, while I continue my journey on another continent.
After a long period of solitude and integration, I am beginning to open up again, sharing myself and my work with you.
And Oceania is already evoking new work, and new ways of working.
I’ve made a new collection and recorded music since. But for now, I simply want to shine a little light on what Bali inspired to come to life:
Until we meet again,
Loekie
